Cleaning Kia Sportage Turbo Intercooler and Intro about Oil Catch Can

I have been doing hands-on stuff to our workhorse 1998 Kia GrandSportage. Earlier this year the car had undergone a complete overhaul. Everything was cleaned but I noticed that the Turbo Intercooler wasn't. So did my research as to how to do this; if its safe and what not. Then I saw this video from Youtube where this fellow pinoy made baklas his Ford Everest Turbo Intercooler. So I thought if he did it to his 2-3 year old car then it should be safe for me to do it on my old friend.


While researching about other safe stuff I can do on the car, I came across Oil Catch Can. So what is Oil Catch Can? Its a device attached from the PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) that takes the excess oil released together by the released pressure from the engine.


So why bring up Oil Catch Can topic, I am not entirely sure but I see something the functions as an oil catch can but the outlet where its coming from doesn't seem to look like as a PCV. Here's the picture:)

yeah.. still looks dirty but I tell you they are already clean at this look!:)

So here are the steps in cleaning the Intercooler.


1. Loosen all hose clamps as illustrated below.

2. and logic will takeover to take other bolts holding down the intercooler in place.

At this point its also a good practice to cover the exposed parts of the turbo and the manifold intake, just to protect it from foreign materials in getting in.
3. Cleaning materials I used were: 1 Liter Gasoline; a can of Carb Cleaner/Engine Cleaner; Joy Dishwashing Detergent; Powder Detergent; paint brush and plenty of water

4. First in cleaning the intercoolet was just to clean it with dishwashing detergent a few times and rinse with running water. Perform this step a few times. You can also try using gasoline at this point then rinse.


5. After doing step 4 a few time; its now time to get rid of the stubborn oil inside. We now spray it with the Carb Cleaner or Engine Cleaner then just let the liquid get into the tubes of the intercooler. Repeat 4 then step 5 again.


6. Clean other parts that is connected to the intercooler. As for this post I have the ones below I also included:

7. We just have to install everything back in. Tighten hose clamps when everything is in place.


8. Goodluck with all the grease in your hands.

A tip before going to the hardware! You have to make sure that you plot the cuttings that you need. But this doesn't apply if you only need a smaller cutting. Its because they base their computation to a minimum cut of 1ftx4ft.. just do the math:)

You can go to the work area to give the cutter your sizes. In here the cutter is preparing the jig to get 1ftx4ft plywood cuttings:)

Suunto core battery replacement - front bezel

Howdy everyone! Hope you had a great day. Earlier today I had the chance to replace the battery of my old Suunto Core. This watch uses CR-2032 battery which has easy user access for battery replacement. The sad thing is that my battery access is stuck.

Last battery replacement I did cost me something that made me give the watch a long rest. Just recently I thought of replacing battery through the bezel. This is what the repairman told me they would do. 

Fyi. I did not search the web for this. Ayt!

Step 1. Deep breaths! Hehehe... We need to have some tools here. We will be using tiny hex screw tool. But before having access to the screews we need to pry open the front bezel! Just use your fingernails. 

Step 2. We now have access to 4 screws. 

Step 3. Take the front glass and keep it safe. We now have access to the lcd. Just gently get access to the back. Be gentle since there is a ribbon wire attched from the lcd to the back plate of the watch. See pics before going to step 4.

Step 5. Get the old batt and replace. Do some cleaning at this part. Put everything  back in now. Position the gasket properly before putting the screws back.

DIY project - cafe racer side mirror install in Yamaha SRX400

So my good friend Dennis wanted me to install a cafe racer side mirror on his SRX 400. So I went to Stokers bike shop in Wireless Subangdaku to get this nice mirror @ 1350php.

Here are the easy steps on how i did it. Enjoy!

First i had to plan how to install it either by using the rubber expander that came with the mirror or do it another way. 

Since I have to impress myself, heres the another way i thought about.

Took the stock barends

So the plan was to of cut the barend and bore a hole where i can mount the bolt from the mirror. Good thing i have few friendly friends at a machine shop nearby;)
